State Director, For Our Future Virginia
As the Director of For Our Future Virginia, Antwaun Griffin leads a collection of activists, community leaders, students, families and progressive organizations working to advance a progressive agenda in Virginia. Antwaun and his team organize throughout the year in a swing state which has consequential elections every year.
Under his leadership, For Our Future Virginia helped elect the governor and is poised to help deliver the first progressive trifecta in a southern state – closing the gap in the General Assembly to just one seat in each chamber. Since launching in 2017, Antwaun’s team has also contributed to the pick up of three Congressional seats and the expansion of Medicaid to cover 423,000 people in Virginia.
Antwaun previously served as a Presidentially-appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce at the International Trade Administration (ITA). In this role, he shaped the Obama Administration’s trade promotion and economic policy; helping U.S. businesses increase exports, expand into new markets, and compete globally. He also aided the Administration’s strategic outreach to public and private sector organizations as well as the launch of the “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative. Before joining the Obama Administration, Antwaun served as a campaign manager or senior advisor on various statewide and national campaigns and initiatives including Obama for America, Bobby Scott for Congress, America Votes, and Chris Dodd for President.
Antwaun is a native of Richmond, Virginia, and graduated from the University of Virginia where he was an Echols Scholar.
