State Director, For Our Future Michigan
Katie Kelly joined For Our Future Michigan to help launch the chapter in the spring of 2018. As State Director, Katie works with local partners, elected representatives, and community members from Detroit to Grand Rapids to elevate key progressive issues year-round and to boost voter turnout come election times.
The widely-respected political organizer ushered in a sea change of electoral victories with her team in the Wolverine state in 2018. For Our Future Michigan helped elect Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, win two nationally-targeted Congressional races, flip five Republican seats in the state House, and five in the state Senate, which ended a Republican supermajority in the Senate. Under her leadership, For Our Future also organized voters to adopt sweeping voting rights ballot measures.
Katie was the Political and Field Director for America Votes in Michigan for four years, where, among many responsibilities, she helped oversee a multi-million-dollar independent expenditure program during Michigan’s 2014 cycle. In 2016 she served as the Get Out the Vote (GOTV) Director for the Michigan Coordinated Campaign. She began to lay down roots in Michigan in 2012 when she served as Chief of Staff to State Senator Rebekah Warren. Katie also helped make progress in neighboring Ohio, where she was the Field Director for We Are Ohio’s successful ‘No on State Issue 2’ campaign in 2011 to repeal Senate Bill 5, which would have taken away collective bargaining for the state’s public employees. She cut her teeth in politics as a field organizer on Barack Obama’s historic presidential campaign in 2008.
